7月30日讯 58年前的今天，英格兰在本土举行的世界杯加时4-2击败西德，夺得了队史首座也是唯一一座大赛冠军。

在该届赛事中，英格兰在小组赛首战0-0闷平乌拉圭、但随后以2-0相同比分击败墨西哥和法国，从而头名晋级。八强战1-0阿根廷、半决赛2-1葡萄牙。

英格兰在1966年世界杯决赛常规时间2-2战平西德，赫斯特加时连入两球，最终完成帽子戏法，帮助英格兰4-2击败死敌，赢得队史首冠。

不过自那之后，英格兰再未能染指大赛冠军。在最近2两届欧洲杯，他们都打进了决赛，但分别不敌意大利和西班牙。
